Easy Non-Alcoholic Mulled Wine (One Pot, 10 Minutes)
Looking for an easy non-alcoholic mulled wine? You need one bottle of non-alcoholic red wine, plus an orange, cinnamon, cloves and maple syrup. One pot, 10 minutes, 4 mugs, and the house smells like the holidays.
Starting from a real dealcoholized wine instead of grape juice is what makes it taste like mulled wine: it keeps the tannins and the dry finish.
Ingredients
1 bottle (750 ml) of Carl Jung Merlot
1 orange, sliced
2 cinnamon sticks
4 whole cloves
2 tbsp of maple syrup or honey
Preparation
Add everything to a pot: The wine, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves and maple syrup.
Warm on medium-low: Heat for about 10 minutes, until it steams. Do not let it boil.
Taste: Add a little more maple syrup if you like it sweeter.
Serve: Ladle into mugs with an orange slice in each.
Preparation advice
Do not boil it: Keep the heat at medium-low. Boiling can make the orange peel bitter.
For a crowd: For 8 mugs, use 2 bottles, 2 oranges, 4 cinnamon sticks, 8 cloves and 1/4 cup of maple syrup. For 16 mugs, 4 bottles, 4 oranges, 6 cinnamon sticks, 16 cloves and 1/2 cup of maple syrup. Keep the pot on the lowest heat so guests can serve themselves.
Make it ahead: It keeps in the fridge up to 2 days. Reheat gently, without boiling.
Whole spices: They keep the wine clear. With ground cinnamon, use 1/2 tsp and strain before serving.
Variations
- Richer: Use Ariel Cabernet Sauvignon for a deeper, oakier pot.
- Spiced: Stir in a splash of NOA Spiced Rum off the heat.
- Apple: Add a cup of apple cider and a sliced apple.
