Because alcohol carries calories, most non-alcoholic beers are much lighter than regular beer, often under 100 calories per can. How is non-alcoholic beer made?
Most are brewed as regular beer, then the alcohol is removed by gentle vacuum distillation or membrane filtration. Others use special yeasts or a short fermentation that produces very little alcohol.
Does non-alcoholic beer taste like regular beer?
The best ones come very close, especially IPAs, stouts and sours, where hops, roasted malt and fruit carry the flavour.
