First Impressions

Quebec has been quietly doing something remarkable in the non-alcoholic beer world. Sober Carpenter has built one of the most credible NA lineups in the country, and the DDH Hazy NEIPA is where things get genuinely exciting. DDH means double dry-hopped, and that matters here. Brewed with experimental lotus hops, this one goes somewhere most NA beers won't. I had to give it a proper look.

The 473mL can feels solid and purposeful. The label carries the clean, confident Sober Carpenter aesthetic that craft beer fans have come to recognize. Pour it into a glass and the liquid delivers exactly what the style promises. Properly hazy, soft golden amber with that characteristic NEIPA cloudiness that holds the light beautifully.

The nose opens with tropical citrus and orange blossom, then something softer follows. That vanilla thread from the lotus hops rounds out what could otherwise be a sharp hop profile. It reminds me of cutting into a ripe orange next to a warm pastry. For a non-alcoholic beer, the aroma is doing serious work.

How it actually tastes

The first sip delivers a lush, juicy citrus quality with noticeably more body than most NA beers. The oats earn their place, adding a creamy texture that carries the flavors smoothly from front to back. Mid-palate, a gentle vanilla note shows up alongside soft hop bitterness. The finish is clean and slightly dry, with just enough linger to feel complete. It drinks like a real craft beer!

Over ice, the hazy body holds its character without going flat. The citrus stays bright, the vanilla keeps the profile from tipping too bitter, and the whole thing stays cohesive from first sip to last. This is a well-calibrated pour that respects the style it is representing.

A Small Ritual I Like

Serve this cold and pour it into a tulip glass to let the aromas open up properly. No ice required. This is a patio beer, a Friday-after-work beer, a game night beer. It belongs wherever someone wants to feel fully present in the moment without the alcohol.

At $3.49 a can, this is one of the most compelling single-can options in the NA craft category. People reach for this one because they want the real craft experience without compromise. It delivers on that promise fully!

Quebec brewing at its best. Double dry-hopped and making the case. A hazy that earns every bit of its name. Grab a four-pack before it's gone!

Frequently asked questions

What are lotus hops?

Lotus hops (experimental variety #06297) are known for their tropical fruit, orange, and vanilla character. Sober Carpenter uses them in this DDH NEIPA to build an unusually complex and aromatic hop profile that stands out in the non-alcoholic beer category.

What does DDH mean in this beer?

DDH stands for double dry-hopped. The hops are added twice during the cold-side brewing process, which maximizes aroma and flavour without pushing up the bitterness. The result is a more vivid, fragrant pour than a standard single dry-hopped beer.

Is the Sober Carpenter DDH NEIPA gluten-free?

No. This beer is brewed with malted barley, so it is not suitable for people with celiac disease or a gluten intolerance. If you need a gluten-free option, we have several alternatives in our selection.
