The sugar in wine is called residual sugar: the natural grape sugar left after fermentation. Alcohol gives wine its body and warmth, so when it is removed, some winemakers add grape juice or must to round out the taste. That is why some non-alcoholic wines are sweeter than you expect. The wines below keep the sugar low and let the fruit, acidity and tannins do the work.
Try Lautus Savvy Red (2.4 g), Fre Cabernet Sauvignon (2.8 g), Noughty Syrah (2.8 g) or L'Arjolle Merlot Grenache (3 g).
For whites, try Giesen Sauvignon Blanc, Luminara Chardonnay (2.4 g) or L'Arjolle Viognier Sauvignon (3 g). For rosé, Noughty Rosé (2 g) and L'Arjolle Rosé.
Bubbles do not have to be sweet: Giesen Sparkling Brut has under 2 g of sugar per 100 mL, and NOA Dry Sparkling about 3 g.
Dry reds and brut sparkling wines are usually the lowest. In this collection, Giesen Sparkling Brut, Noughty Rosé and Lautus Savvy Red are among the driest.
It depends on the bottle. Some have more than 5 g per 100 mL, others less than 3 g. This collection only includes wines with 5 g of sugar or less per glass.
Yes. Without alcohol and with little sugar, most have 10 to 25 calories per 100 mL, a fraction of a regular glass of wine.
